Marcus Brown
Marcus is a UK-based music producer, musician and songwriter.
His career spans four decades, working with some of the most inspiring and enduring international artists in the studio and on stage.
From Madison Square Gardens to Abbey Road, Marcus has had an exceptional career. Now co-founder at Sybil Productions, an independent audio production company in County Durham, he splits his time between music production and session work, and compositions for audio, film and media.
Whilst he’s had the fortune of seeing the world with incredible artists like Madonna, Ozzy Osbourne, Seal and Richard Ashcroft, work he holds especially dear is from times working with emerging indie artists and pivotal career moments. He is particularly interested in working with artists finding their sound, trying something new or figuring out next steps.
Marcus is managed by Sybil Productions Ltd. Please contact Vikki Price for studio or production enquiries and Lisa Hesler for anything else including press, speaker requests or live work.
Marcus was mentored and trained in music production and songwriting by Tony McAnaney, who he met in his first band, Dance Class. From soundtrack for the BBC (Spender, Riff Riff Element) to pop records, Marcus cut his recording teeth in Tony’s recording studio in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK.
Since moving to the big city in the 1990s (London, Frankfurt, Los Angeles), Marcus has worked with some of the most influential producers in the music industry across pop, rock, dance and urban genres.

A trained classical, jazz and pop pianist, Marcus soon became a go-to session player and programmer in London, featuring on hit records by Tina Turner, Francis Rossi, Celine Dion and Donna Summer. By 2001, following his first major international tour with newly solo-artist Richard Ashcroft, Marcus got the call of a lifetime - the invitation by the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, to join her band as principle keyboard player on her groundbreaking Drowned World Tour.
Marcus moved to Los Angeles USA to join rehearsals and, over the next decade, travelled the world on 8 major tours for 3 international artists.
Richard Ashcroft (2000-2001): ‘Alone…’ | Madonna (2001-2007): Drowned World, Re-Invention, American Life, Confessions | Ozzy Osbourne (2003): Ozzfest Seal (2008-2011): Soul, Soul 2, Commitment
Meanwhile, Marcus continued to produce, write and record. He joined Machinehead, a commercial music house in L.A., as an in-house composer working for the founding father of sound design - Stephen Dewey - on commerical, film and TV soundtrack. Between tour stops, he continued writing, recording and producing with emerging pop artists Adam Lambert, James Kenney and Storm Lee.
His professional session work included the biggest international pop stars of the decade, not to forget a quick stop off to record piano and hammond organ on James Morrison’s Undiscovered before heading to Hyde Park to play Live 8 with Madonna.
A rollercoaster ride of highs and lows of the L.A. music industry life gave Marcus more career defining moments than most people dare to dream of. From the iconic VMA performance featuring Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (yes, he was on stage for that kiss) to opening the Grammy Awards with the Gorillas, Marcus’s career has been outstanding and jaw-dropping.

In 2015, Marcus took the difficult decision to step out of the madness of international touring work, and returned to the UK to recuperate and spend time with family. He spent a few years building staircases with his first and most significant musical influence - his dad, piano and organ player John Brown - before his passing in late 2020; treasured time he would never have been able to share with him in L.A.
Time away from hectic life means Marcus can pick up the projects he really wants to work on, and spend the time and focus making them great. Over recent years he has worked with trusted friends and colleagues on mostly indie releases, including Sea Fret, Skinny Living and Gogol Bordello.
In 2023, he founded Sybil Productions, an audio production company that focusses on his lesser-known love of soundtrack and composition. In 2025, its seminal first production ‘The City: Revolution’ (in final stages of production) won pre-release awards and nominations at several international film and web festivals.
Marcus now splits his time between composing soundtrack and immersive audio at Sybil Productions and his music production and songwriting career. New projects ever on the horizon, watch this space for new releases and maybe even some long awaited solo works.
Marcus is currently managed by Sybil Productions.
